1967 ESO/Jawa Ice Racer  “Boris”

Boris is our 1967 ESO/Jawa Ice Racer. We purchased this bike form Richard Snodin during our trip to England in June of 2001. This machine spent it’s early years in Russia as a team spare. Experts in the UK say that this bike may have seen the ice only a few times due to the overall near new condition.

As I’m given to understand it, Boris was purchased by someone in Finland that got it out of Russia. Later it was purchased by Roy Young of Cumbria, England. Roy sold it to Richard Snodin, who added it to his collection.

Only a few days before our trip to England I found this machine advertised for sale in Classic Motorcycle magazine along with our Mk1 Weslake. I immediately phoned Richard and came to an agreement on the purchase of the two machines.

Once Boris arrived here in Arizona, I did a good deal of detail work and had some plating done. I also laced up a new front wheel. Changing a tire on one of these is interesting.

Boris is now a multi-award winner and a real attention getter at the Vintage Shows.

Not many people in the Southwest have seen a real ice racer.
